Who are your local Master Gardeners?
Your local Master Gardeners are individuals who have undergone extensive training in horticulture and gardening practices. They are volunteers who work within their communities to share their knowledge and skills to assist home gardeners. Their primary goal is to promote sustainable gardening practices by providing science-based, unbiased advice to the public.

How to Become a Master Gardener:

Step 1. Begin the process by completing the form below. This form tells us you are interested in becoming a Master Gardener and provides us with your contact information which we use to send welcome information, and most importantly, invite you to our monthly meetings and gatherings.

Step 2. Enroll in Growing and Caring for Plants in Wisconsin: Foundations in Gardening online through the University of Wisconsin-Extension (https://hort.extension.wisc.edu/foundations-in-gardening), Earlybird enrollment starts in July with classes beginning in Fall. This class is an online, complete-at-your-own-pace introductory course where you learn key concepts for selecting, growing, and maintaining plants – from trees to houseplants to vegetables (and everything in between!)

Step 3. Complete Introduction to Horticulture class and enroll in Onboarding through the UW-Extension website. This class provides the information you need to know to volunteer in the community, including what counts for education and volunteer hours.

Step 4. Come volunteer with us! There are so many volunteer opportunities including hands-on work in the community gardens, teaching children at the YMCA, meeting and answering questions at the local Farmers Market, planning and organizing bus trips, Garden Dreams and Garden Parade.
